Judaism

Pig-eating in Judaism is barred because of:

Deuteronomy 14:8

The pig is also unclean; although it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses.

Islam

For Muslims, the Quran reiterates the prohibition of pork independently (e.g., Qur’an 2:173, 5:3, 6:145, 16:115), not because of cud/hoof, but simply as divine command — it is considered haram (forbidden).

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:173)

“He has only forbidden you dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But if one is compelled by necessity — neither desiring it nor transgressing — there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”

Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:3)

“Forbidden to you are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, and the strangled, the beaten, the fallen, and the gored…”

Surah Al-An’am (6:145)

“Say, I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden for one who would eat it unless it be carrion, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine — for indeed, it is impure — or it be a sinful offering dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced by necessity without willful disobedience or transgression — indeed, your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.”

Surah An-Nahl (16:115)

“He has only forbidden you carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is compelled by necessity, without desiring or exceeding, then indeed Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”

Christianity

Christianity however has no issue with pig-eating.

1. Old Testament (Hebrew Bible)

  • As you quoted: Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 forbid pork for the Israelites.

  • That’s part of the broader Mosaic Law (613 commandments total, covering food, ritual purity, festivals, sacrifices, etc.).

2. New Testament Shift

Most Christians believe that Jesus’s coming Fulfilled the old covenant, meaning believers are no longer bound by the ritual/ceremonial laws of the Torah (including food restrictions).

Here are the key New Testament passages Christians point to:

Mark 7: 17-19

After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)

Acts 10: 11-15

He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
