The Three Lucks are the Chinese metaphysical model of fortune, derived from the Cosmic Trinity (三才, sān cái, “the three powers” of Heaven, Earth, and Man). Rather than treating luck as a single undifferentiated force, the tradition splits it into three sources with very different degrees of control:

  • Heaven Luck (天运, tiān yùn) — the fate you are born into. Fixed.
  • Earth Luck (地运, dì yùn) — the fortune of your environment. Adjustable.
  • Human Luck (人运, rén yùn) — the fortune you make by your own conduct. Yours.
